At the opening ceremony in June THE PLAQUE and AWARDS are distributed to winners. ZMAJ CHILDREN GAMES PLAQUE is given "in recognition of a highly creative contribution to literature for children as a result of deep understanding of the childhood world and deep devotion to the noblest human aspirations". THE PLAQUE has been awarded to the outstanding Yugoslav writers. THE PLAQUE has been awarded to a foreign author in 1985. The first winner of the prize has been the Swedish woman writer Astrid Lindgren. Zmaj Children Games AWARDS are given for "a creative contribution to the modern expression in literature for children as well as for bringing this type of literature to wider public attention." We have, in the first place, explained what Zmaj Children Games are. We have done this because the book CHILDHOODS WHISPER would not exist if there were not this outstanding Yugoslav cultural institution. On its pages the most beautiful prose and poetry extracts both by Yugoslav and foreign authors have been presented. The basic idea was to present, through the book, the literal and artistic creative work initiated by Zmaj Children Games. Within the Games over 300 books and appropriate brochures have been published written almost 1000 authors both from Yugoslavia and abroad. CHILDHOODS WHISPER does not represent an anthological selection a reading book and a picture book of an institution which for more than three decades deals with books and creative work for children in general. Everything published in this book has its former review in some of numerous Games' publications. Readers will have the opportunity too follow the development of contemporary literature for children in Serbia and Yugoslavia. In the same time, the book shows the maturing of our literature for children into a literature which has to be respected all over the world. |
